Reviews
I was excited to see this film come out today. Ironically it's Saint Patrick's day and due to medicines, I can't drink alcohol today, at first i said thank you Redbox, and nothing great was on TV.
I expected a movie and what i got felt more like a Cassavette's improvised film on many levels, New York City, performers, anti-conformity, sad realism, and even some Charles Mingus music, though that's not unusual for some Chris Rock films.
Was it funny? Yes, in part. Some funny jokes and scenes were very funny, i have horrific images of Cedric The Entertainer burned into my memory. Chris Rock can be funny, I'm a fan of his to a point.
Was there a story? Kind of a weak plot story with an overpowering subplot.
Would i recommend this film? Not to most people. But it is an interesting tale of an aging comedian and his struggles.
Am i biased? Probably, i really enjoyed the Chris Rock film TWO DAYS IN NEW YORK, so my hopes of seeing another comedy of sorts was thwarted. This was little more art house than i had expected.
